Jennifer Petersen

Owner

Owner of Lassen Intervention and published author of “STOP IT! Don’t Compare Your Insides With Other People’s Outsides.”  Mrs. Petersen has lived in Lassen County for over 50 years, and is a public speaker, both nationally and internationally. She has been working with those in addiction recovery for ten years, and received a dual Degree in Drugs & Alcohol and Human Services. She is the founder of the non-profit Lassen Wellness Center

Shayla J. Ashmore, LMFT

Clinical Supervisor, Therapist

Shayla J. Ashmore is a licensed marriage and family therapist with 14 years of counseling experience, including Child Abuse Treatment therapy at the non-profit Lassen Family Services in Susanville and seven years in private practice.  She holds a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and a journalism degree from the University of Kansas. She also has experience as a newspaper editor, television news reporter and anchor, magazine feature writer and radio news reporter and announcer. She is married and has four grown children and lives in Susanville.

Peggy Vaquera, LPCC

Hello! My name is Peggy and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) who specializes in child and teen mental health therapy. I have over 13 years of experience working with youth in Lassen County who have suffered from some form of trauma. I earned my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University and have spent the past 6 years as a Child Trauma Therapist. I am adoption competent and can provide attachment therapy to adoptive families. I truly love working with children and teens! Each child and teen are unique and I appreciate their individuality, interests, perspectives and experiences! I feel honored to help them overcome their troubles and obstacles. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family! I love to travel around the world and embrace different cultures.

ELIZABETH DARLEY, ASW

Elizabeth Darley has enjoyed raising her family in the giving community of Lassen County for
over 25 years.  Mrs. Darley began her career, serving in Lassen County Schools with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Hearing sciences. Deepening her spirituality, she earned a Degree from Global University and is now a licensed minister. She is currently pursuing the final year of a Master’s in Social Work degree and is the program director for Stronger Families. Mrs. Darley lives her life motto out with: “We are all students of life, and we’re here for a purpose, on purpose.”

Christena Parker-Petersen, ASW

Hello! I have my ASW and previously practiced in West Jordan, UT. I have experience in providing mental health counseling in residential treatment centers for adults and adolescents servicing a variety of mental health concerns.  I provided individual, family, and group services for adolescents with behavioral, substance, and mental health issues primarily focused on reuniting and strengthening the family system.  I serviced adults in residential treatment for substance use and mental health concerns providing individual and group therapy.  Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outside hiking, rock climbing and searching for new places to explore.

Rhonda Foley, LCSW, CATC IV

Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor IV

 

Rhonda M. Foley, LCSW, CATC IV, has been working in the field of social work since 1997. She began her own journey of recovery and realized early on she had a passion for helping others with substance abuse. She has experience working with adolescents, adults, parents and family members in various treatment settings. In 1999 Rhonda began with Positive Action Center, an adolescent and adult SUD treatment program at Chapman Medical Center, in Orange County, Ca. In 2002 Rhonda became Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor then graduated with her B.S. in Human Services in 2004. Rhonda is considered an expert in substance use disorder treatment and has helped develop several programs for various treatment modalities. 2008 Rhonda assisted with the fine tuning of Coastal Mountain Youth Academy, a diversion sober high school, providing adolescent, parent and family groups. In 2009, as the Chemical Dependency Director at Crittenton Services for Children and Families, she developed the SUD programs for residential foster care, parenting classes for wrap around services, and provided foster parents with drug education.

Rhonda went on to complete her MSW at USC in 2013. Rhonda became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2017. Rhonda is also experienced in treating co-occurring disorders such as trauma, PTSD, bi-polar, major depressive and anxiety disorders. Rhonda moved to Susanville in 2015 to accept a position as a clinician at HDSP here in Lassen County.

Brent Petersen

Operations Director

Brent moved to Lassen County in 1971. He received his LVN and worked at HDSP as a Medical Technical Assistant and officer. Most recently, he retired from his position as Counselor. Brent is organized and has a straight forward approach, making sure the operations of the office run smoothly. He has been married since 1991, and they have four children who have chosen great spouses. Brent’s preferred title is “Papa Pete.” And his favorite thing in the world is to hang out with his grandchildren and collect rocks.

I am a substance use disorder registered counselor and a father of 2 boys. I have lived in Susanville for 9 years and have really grown to love being a part of this community. I enjoy doing what I do because I am passionate about sharing the message of recovery and hope!

Ricky Petersen, MSW

Stronger Families Co-Facilitator, Therapist Intern


Rick is an intern therapist at Lassen Intervention. He Graduated with his bachelors in Social Work from Brigham Young University- Idaho in 2022. He is going for his Masters in Social Work from the University of Kentucky’s online masters program. He enjoys working with all ages, from child to teen, to young adolescent. With an emphasis in Behavioral and Mental health, he has seen lives change with clients struggling with ADHD, anxiety, OCD, depression, and other behaviors. He was born and raised in Susanville, CA and recently moved back home with his wonderful wife Christy. He enjoys theater, tabletop games, and laughing at good dad jokes.

Sydnee Petersen

Receptionist


I was born and raised in Lassen County and have worked with the public at IGA, Ace Hardware, and as a teacher assistant for McKinley’s afterschool program. I have also served on P-CREW for the Fire and Ranger Station. I attended Lassen High School and  Lassen College majoring in Business. I attended a service mission to help others in Idaho and Utah for 15 months. I love setting goals and achieving them. Helping others is the most important thing I do, as  well as learning from other people. My hobbies are puzzles, putting things together, making friends, playing games, reading, swimming, watching movies, and going on walks.

Tim Darley

Maintenance

For 31 years, Tim Darley served as a dedicated and respected correctional officer within the Department of Corrections. Tim’s family has been his pillar of strength throughout his career. He shares his life with a beautiful wife, Elizabeth, who is a social worker, specializing in therapy programs.

Together, they have raised two wonderful children, whose achievements and successes have been a source of immense pride for Tim.
In his retirement, Tim cherishes spending quality time with his grandsons, Saint, Carver and Coleson and fishing.

Since retiring from the Department of Corrections, Tim has continued his commitment to service by working as a maintenance man at Lassen Intervention, where his wife is employed.
This role allows him to support his wife’s valuable work in social intervention programs while engaging with the community.
